Head Coach, Sr. 1 & 2: Bill Vargo

Coach Vargo has been coaching swimming the past 32 years.  The first 3 years were as the Assistant Women's and Men's Coach at the University of South Florida and the Head Swim Coach of Plant City Swim Club.  The past 25 years he has been the Head Swim Coach of the Central Florida Marlins Swim Program and the Central Florida Community College Aquatics Coordinator; and the last 8 years as Head Swim Coach for the Central Florida Marlins & Aquatics Director for Ocala Aquatics.  Coach Vargo swam for the University of South Florida and was team captain his senior year.  He graduated from U.S.F. with a B.A. in Marketing and a Masters in Education.  He has been Head coach of Florida Swimming's Zone Team, President of the Florida Swim Coaches Association, Board Member of Florida Swimming, and currently Chairman of Florida Swimming.  He has coached swimmers to state records, National Top 16, Junior and Senior National levels.  He is currently the boys swim team coach for Forest High School.  Coach Vargo has been married to Pam for 30 years and has three children, Jessica, W.J., and Rachael.

 

Age Group 2, 3 & Pre-Senior Coach:  Jeff Wise

Coach Wise started coaching swimming in Evansville, Indiana, in 1982.  He established both a boys and girls high school swim team at Mount Vernon High School.  After moving back to his hometown of Elkhart, Indiana he was asked to coach his old high school boys team, and took several to IU Natatorium in Indianapolis for the State Championships.  Coach Wise was asked to join the Marlins coaching staff in 2002.  Coach Wise was MVP three years at Concord High School in Elkhart, Indiana and MVP his last two years of college at the University of Evansville, along with conference MVP his senior year at UE.  He also swims with the the Central Florida Marlins Master's Team.  He has been married to Camille for 26 years and has two children, Caitlyn and Adam.

     

 

 Age Group 1 Coach: Steve Floyd

Coach Floyd started coaching in 1979 with the philosophy that every swimmer, regardless of talent, is special - they deserve the chance to succeed and grow both athletically and personally through swimming. After coaching at the Jersey Wahoo’s Swim Club, Saint Joseph’s Preparatory School & Willowdale Swim Club, he founded Voyagers Swimming, a U.S. Swim Club which grew from 30 swimmers to 300 annually in 9 different skill groups, ranging from beginning swimmers to those with national aspirations, willing to practice 20+ hours/week. The team’s success was reflected in swimmer's breaking state records, reaching top 16 national age group times, qualifying for Jr. & Sr. National Champs and Olympic Trials. Coach Floyd has been married to Renee for 24 years and has two children, Nick and Laura.

 

 

Age Group 1 & Masters Asst. Coach: Lisa Hyde

Coach Hyde grew up as an age group swimmer and continued through college; starting first at Southern Illinois University, then transferring to the University of South Carolina.  She was a high school State Swimming Champion in the state of Ohio.  In college, she was an All-American swimmer, placing 5th in NCAA Division I Swimming and Diving Championships.  She was the Most Valuable & Most Improved Women's Swimmer at SIU 1987 and competed in the Olympic Trials in 1988.  Lisa was elected Co-Captain of the USC Women's Swim Team by her peers for the 1990-91 swim season.  She graduated in 1991 from USC with a BS in Business with a major in Marketing.

In 1989, Lisa coached the USC Masters Swimming Program and was an Asst. Coach of Gamecock Aquatics age group swim team in 1990.  She joined the CF Marlins coaching staff in 2008 and has been Asst. Coach for the Masters, Gold group and Age Group 1.

Lisa has been married to her husband, Jeff (a fellow swimmer at USC) for 17 years and has three children; Jacob, Wesley, and Seth. The boys are active members of the Marlins Swim Team and Swim America programs.  Lisa & Jeff also continue to compete for the CF Marlins in the Masters group.

     

               

 

Gold Group Coach:  Joey Black

Coach Black joined the CF Marlins coaching staff in Oct 2008.  She moved here from Indiana. Coach Black has been coaching swimming for 6 years, ages 8 - 13.  She also coaches the girls swim team at Forest  High School. 

 

 

 

M & M Group Coach:  Jaime Morales

Coach Morales has been swimming competively for five years as a CF Marlin.  Jaime joined the coaching staff in 2010 and enjoys the "little ones".  His motto is "You race like you practice and practice like you race".

     

 

 

M & M Head Coach:  Sue Schwerzel

Coach Sue has been involved in teaching children to swim since 1980.  In 2000, she became the Program Director/Owner of Central Florida SwimAmerica located here at the Newton A. Perry Aquatic Center.  The Learn-To-Swim school has been a great training ground for swimmers and coaches alike.  Coach Sue has been the Head M&M coach since 2007, which features swimmers ages 3 - 6 years.  She graduated from Dunnellon High School in 1979 and received her Bachelors of Science in Physical Education from Florida State University in 1983.  She has been a teacher at North Marion High School for the past 29 years.  Coach Sue has remained passionate about swimming through the years.

 

M & M Group Coach:  Kristina Holland

Coach Kristina has been involved with teaching kids to swim since 2005.  She became the Site Supervisor of Central Florida SwimAmerica in 2009.  Coach Kristina has been coaching the M&M's for several years.  She graduated from North Marion High School in 2006 and received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from Rollins College in 2010.  She currently teaches Physical Education at North Marion Middle School.
